Multiplayer games in Diablo are much more interesting than in the solo game. A few words of warning though. Avoid playing on the Internet, unless you personally know who you are playing with. There are quite a few people out there called PKs who like to cheat at the game: they use hacked software to increase their characters properties and abilities to ridiculous levels, then go around looking for inocent players to befriend before turning bad, killing them and making off with their equipment.
To avoid this, I recommend playing Diablo over your local network with a few friends. This also makes the evening that more of a social event. The other major plus is that your connection speed will be that much faster.
When starting a game, get the lowest level character's player to create the game. This is because each game is generated at the difficulty level according to the level of the person who creates the game.
Strategy
When playing the game with your friends, try to think about the balence of the party. If one player is a lot weaker than the others, try to help that player by protecting him a bit. This will make the game better for all, if he isn't continually dying on you.
Cover a room at a time, work systematically. Avoid hitting each other. This should be relatively easy for fighters and rogues, but a mage who wants to let rip with all his high end spells in a careless manner will soon become unpopular.
Mages therefore should either adventure in a different area of the dungeon on thiere own. Or learn to just cast those spells that can be controlled to a level where they aren't continually hitting the warriors. The safe spells you should keep hotkeyed in a multiplayer game are: Holy Bolt, this should always be used against the undead, as it doesn't hurt other players. Fire wall, as long as you don't block another player in a crowded area. Stone Curse, this really helps the warriors if you Stone the nasties, particularly the missile firing ones. Golem, to give the others a helping hand. The other spell worth noting is heal other. If you look after your comrades well, they are more likely to give you a good share of the treasure that they will inevitably find before you.
Warriors should read the above paragraph and remember that with a cooperative mage in your party, your life will be so much easier. Try to keep him and the rogue happy by sharing out the treasure that you find.
Rogues while less vunerable to physical attack that the mage, and not quite as agressive as the warrior should keep a little distance from the frey. Try to shoot out anything that threatens the party as a whole first. If there is a skellie archer firing at you from a distance, who is doing very little damage to you. While your fighter is cornered by six angry blood knights and a unique doing vast amounts of damage to him, then I think you should be able to work out who to shoot at first.
The multiplayer game is about Cooperation, Consideration and Carnage.... go do it..!
